You can register for free and have your submissions be corrected by native speakers. Once you have reached a good enough level to practice writing, you can start doing so on websites like. I personally use Pleco with its paid flashcard addon. Memrise is a nice tool to practice vocabulary, though depending on your preference you might prefer flashcard software like Anki. Pleco is a great dictionary in case you are using an Android/iOS smartphone. I agree with many of the suggestions here. She said they are not really speaking Standard Chinese (putonghua) and since then I haven't touched them again. Also, I have let a Chinese friend listen to one of the podcasts of ChinesePod and she has advised me from not using them. I also suggest you to rather use popupchinese instead of ChinesePod. There are a looot of free resources, blogs, books, podcasts, radios, and also professional/semi-professional/amateur courses on Youtube, some better than others, but I've found really interesting, helpful and entertaining stuff there. The team is very helpful and have always answered my questions very quickly. they are now releasing a new course on characters, which seems very interesting. It has a lot of material, well scheduled courses, clear explanations, street interviews. You can check some free lessons on Youtube. I've recently finished the beginner's course and began with intermediate. I'm still amazed of how much I've have learnt already, and I'm enjoying it a lot.
This is just my opinion, I know people who have enjoyed Rosetta, but it just didn't work for me.
They were okay to listen on long train journeys to help me sleep, but I don't think any of these is worth the money.
But I've tried Pimsleur and it was even more boring. I've never tried ChinesePod, so can't talk about it. I found Rosetta kind of boring, and dropped it after one week.
